Connect to wireless on windows 98

In order to connect to your router using WEP you must set your entire network to use that standard. Setting only the computer to WEP will not allow it to connect. Windows 98 depends on whatever driver software is supplied with your wireless adapter to handle network encryption. While the card may support WPA encryption you will not be able to use that standard unless the Windows 98 driver can handle it.

You will know if it is available as you will have a setting to select WPA. If you don't have that, WEP is all you've got. As an aside, you have posted this in the Disk Drives forum. You might want to try asking your question on the Networking, Internet, and Wireless forum by using the Support Forums menu above. Browse Community. Turn on suggestions. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type. The only way is updating to Windows 98 Second Edition.

No, its a tower. I thought that looked like a laptop card. I think ill go with the bridge. Posted September 3, What about this wifi pci card? It even supports windows 95! And its Netgear! They dont sell it anymore, but ill get it off ebay if its going to work! Posted September 8, Ignore this lot :p Buy yourself a network adapter for your Windows 98 FE PC, if you don't have one on board already :p, then buy yourself a Wireless Access Point and connect the wireless access point to the wireless network :p No need for drivers, just make sure you set the new wireless access point up in client mode instead of service mode and you should be fine : Or if you prefer hardwire it ; lol.

Posted September 21, After looking for a while, I got a Windows 98SE cd, so this will help a lot. I also found Windows , only if needed. I'll search the web for the right files for 9x.

And maybe you need a "fixed" ndis. I was looking forma ZyXEL drivers, but the supporto server was in maintenance and I couldn't search them. Hope this topic helps; how to obtain WPA2 if your wireless device's utility doesn't include it The wireless device must have G. Also includes some alternative wireless devices other users of MSFN use. I'm going to try its drivers and utils in a while.

I've downloaded all the version on this server: the only usable is from , the oldest. So far, I haven't had any problems with this card at all, though it was difficult to find the older Windows 98 compatible driver for it. It might work better in Windows , though.

I'm not even sure how old these cards are. I just got them from my uncle's old desktops that he no longer uses any more. I posted about these HERE. This eliminates need for wi-fi-specific utilities that can be unstable or slow the system down.
